Some very important safety tips that will keep your bird "ALIVE"

THE SILENT KILLER, By Joanie Doss: It makes no sound and has no smell. Polytetraflouethylene (Teflon fumes) is deadly for your birds. A bird's size and lung capacity make him more sensitive to the toxins in our environment. It was for this reason that coal miners would take a canary down into the mines with them. If the bird became sick or died, they knew it was dangerous for them to be in that mine. {Read More}

NEW ~ Toy Dangers: Take a look at this toy! It looks like our birds would have hours and hours of fun chew on it! But, I honestly believe this type of toy can lead to serious health problems even the death of your beloved little friend, WHY? Well, the rubber balls have small ends extruding out, and these can be chewed off into very small pieces and swallowed! If our birds actually eat these small rubber pieces it can clog up their insides which can result in starvation or worse death...

Please choose your birds toys carefully, look for possible dangers such as this one!
Its a nice looking toy, one that might seem harmless, but its not! Think if you were a tiny little bird with nothing better to do but to chew and chew, what do you think you'd do.. Eat It!! It looks yummy, so why not!

Dangerous Toy ~ Chewed in to small pieces, which can be eaten...

I actually had this toy in my P-lets cage!
I became extremely alarmed when I saw all the little pieces chewed off on the bottom of her cage,
and I removed the toy and tossed it in the trash!

Never feed or let your birds eat Avocado's, Apple Seeds, or Chocolate ~ these foods will KILL your bird... Even caffeine in coffee, tea and soda's could lead to serious health problems....
Top 10 Common Foods that Can Poison Your Bird; By Alyson Burgess, About.com

Never mist or spray your birds with a Garden Hose.. The bacteria in your garden hose will make your bird seriously ILL! Only use a brand new bottle and make it specifically for your birds only!

Cedar Chips and Cedar Wood products are EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS to birds and the fumes (smell) from the cedar itself will KILL your birds! Never keep your birds around or near ANYTHING MADE OF CEDAR, not even cedar building materials such as decks and awnings are safe!

Never Use "Ultra Bleach" The use of "Regular House Hold Bleach" is highly recommended as a cleaning aid, its disinfects and removes stains.. However, Ultra Bleach leave behind a hidden toxic, which when used to clean food and water dishes, can lead to the death of your beloved companion... The correct usage of "Regular House Hold Bleach" is aprox 1/8 cup or less per gallon of "warm" water... Simply soak your birdies dishes, perches, and toys for 20 minutes, rinse well and dry.

Please don't use Sand Perches! It will cause extremely painful sores on the bottom of your birds feet! Its like walking bear foot on rough concert everyday of your life! Your feet will be sore with in a matter of hours! Instead of sandy perch covers, use something a little different... and hardwood perches are the best choice of all!

VERY-VERY BAD -->> BETTER-->> THE BEST

Never Use "Bird Protectors" {Mite protectors is a SAFETY HAZARD to ALL Birds}
Using Bird or Mite Proctors is like living with Moth Balls around your neck... They produce toxic odors that can lead to the death of your beloved feathered companion!

If you don't treat or stop the bleeding your bird will DIE ~ ~ It doesn't 't take much blood loss to KILL your bird ~ You need to hold the feather between your fingers, using a Blood-Stop powder, apply pressure until the bleeding stops... I also recommend that you "PULL" the feather out completely... FEBREZE AIR FRESHENER, like so many air fresheners on the market today, is very harmful and will make your birds seriously ILL!

For example: "FEBREZE AIR FRESHENER" smells very nice, "BUT"
is extremely"HARMFUL" to birds, and should never be used!

Never-Ever use any "BUG SPRAYS" around your home, especially professional services, for the chemicals used to kills bugs will "KILL" your birds even if its used outdoors...

~ Some Important Information that will keep your Bird Safe & Happy ~

Hardwood Perches * We use branches from a Palo Verde Tree that grows in our yard! [More Info. & Images]
When ever possible, use hard wood perches in your birds cage! The perches sold with new cages are insufficient and your birds nail will grow long enough to rap around these perches thus causing their toes and nails to become damaged or broken.. I personally suggest you buy Manzanita wood, which is sold specifically for birds, or find an alternative such a Eucalyptus, and Palo Verde branches or other safe hardwood. Why?? Hardwood is not only pleasing to look at, it also acts like a natural emery board or finger nail file, and the continuos force your bird exhibits holding onto these perches wears down their nails, thus, you'll never need to file or trim!

Setting up your birds cage! Toys, toys and more toys! Cockatiels are very smart birds and need stimulation, brain food!

Clipping your birds wings, nails and beaks.... the do's and don'ts
Wing clipping is a choice and not a necessity... If your bird is not living in an aviary like ours, then it may be a good idea to clip its wings. If done correctly your bird will be able to flutter to safety but it won't be able to fly out that open door and down the road....

The National Cockatiel Society has provided an a couple of excellent articles on this subject
