"COCKATIELS
PRAYER"
I
can offer affection,
but I need your attention!
I'll sit on your shoulder,
but you need to hold me closer!
I can learn to speak,
if you to
talk to me!
I can say "Pretty Bird" and "Hello",
if you can say "I Love
You Too"!

Wanted:
Green House
In order to reduce costs, we offer all our birds' fresh green on a daily basis,
nonetheless, colder weather is inhibiting our garden plans and nothing grows!
With out the green foods the cost to support these beautiful creatures sky rockets,
for the only way to supplement the garden greens is to buy 25 lb bags of pellets
that cost $49.99 each and a ton of frozen veggies. As you can see, we really need
a green house! Adding fresh greens to the daily food regimen builds our birds'
immune systems, increases their strength and longevity, not to mention, it brings
diversity and quality to their lives
We
are not asking for a miracle, just a green house!
The space I utilize isn't
very large; and I believe a 10 x 12 ft. growing space is all that is needed!
Please
help! We've dedicated our home and lives to these little wonders, and they are
not just birds! Each one has a personality, a need, and deserve our love and respect!
We interact with special friends on a daily basis, and with soft voices and gentle
hands, these birds are finally safe from the cruel - cruel world around us.

Policy
& Principles:
Before you purchase or adopt a Cockatiel or Budgie you need to be prepared to
take care of them. Birds are like small children or toddlers, and can get into
mischief and can hurt themselves if your home is not bird (child) proof.
Before
You Purchase or Adopt
~ Ask yourself a few Questions ~
* Do I have time to play with
my bird every day?
* Is the cage
I have big enough?
* How long can I keep my bird?
* What
do they eat?
*Do they need sun light? How much?
* Do they
need companions
(other birds)?
* Will my other pets get along
with my bird?
* Is my home bird safe?
* How long do Cockatiels
Live?
* What can I do if they bite me?
* Is there an Avian Specialist
(Bird Vet) available in our area?
If
you answered "I Don't Know" to any of these
questions, we have lots of information to share with you!

Poor
Peep's, he's only gotten a little better!
The Vet said the scare tissue is
so deep and severe that his feathers (in areas seen above) will never grow back!
{Update ~ Jan. 2009}
Poor Peep's had to spend the entire winter indoors! I set him up with a nice big
cage in the Nursery. However, he was still cold! So I put a heating pad on the
back side of his cage and covered 3 sides remaining sides with thick towels to
keep him extra warm and toasty! When the weather warmed back up I let
him back in the aviary with his mate and friends... Yet, he still seemed cold!
I eventually found a ceramic light fixture and a reptile heat bulb which I hung
on the out side of the flight, Now he's warm! Peep's
snuggles up close to
the heat lamp all night long!
Peep's s finally warm and toasty...

I can finally
see an improvement.. Doesn't he look better ??

One Year Later - June 2008
You can see
his scares where his feathers
will never grow again.
Peep's
and his brother Bart are still in recovery and we hope that ~someday~ they will
regain confidence in people. They may become Adoptable later on in life, but for
now they need to stay here were they can rest & recover! They are both on
medication for stress and feather loss, plus we've added extra enrichments high
in calcium to their diets.

This is Lisa, Bart's True Love ~
Bart
is doing better than Peeps! His feathers are starting to grow in and he's plucking
less ~ He's also found the "Love of his Life"
~ His mate is a pretty little cinnamon and she hasn't left his side since she
came to our aviary.

Uncle Bob's Story ~
{Adopted}
{Adopted}
Below
are photos of
him taking care of the little babies
There
was only one nest box in the kept in an aviary meant for a small handful of birds!
Bob's parents had to fight constantly to keep their nest and babies safe from
the other cockatiels who wanted babies of their own.
It was a fight for survival and he almost lost his life!
His
injuries occurred when he was only a few days old ~ when his nest was attacked
by another cockatiel who wanted to lay her eggs.. Lucky for him, his parents were
strong and deafened the nest... However, he was found bloody and severely battered,
but he was alive! Nonetheless, because both of his legs were so damaged he would
never -ever regain use of them.
He'll never join the rest of the flock
in the big flight cage because he just can keep up and the others pick and pluck
at him constantly...
~
We found the perfect place for him ~
Today,
Uncle Bob spends his days with our youngsters in a smaller flight cage. He seems
to enjoy his home too! You see, the babies never pluck or tease him and he's taken
the place of their parents!
